Choose the encoding your destination expects
Base64 represents bytes; it does not encrypt them
The text Hello becomes SGVsbG8= in Base64. Decoding restores Hello. Use this format only when a file format or API asks for it: anyone with the encoded value can reverse it. Base64 usually increases data size and should not be used to protect passwords or tokens.
URL encoding protects characters inside a component
For a query parameter value, a&b becomes a%26b. The encoded ampersand stays part of the value instead of starting another parameter. Encode the value, rather than a complete URL with its scheme and separators.
Check a round trip before copying
Choose the correct mode, convert a small example, then decode the result and compare it with the input. An already encoded %26 becomes %2526 if encoded again. A plus sign is not universally a space: form encoding and generic URL-component decoding use different rules.
